September Wish List: 12 Autumn Essentials on My Radar
September is the month where the wardrobe conversation genuinely shifts — not into full winter mode yet, but with enough of an edge in the morning air to start thinking seriously about the pieces that'll carry the next few months. This list leans harder into "planning ahead" than August's did, with a couple of pieces I'm already fairly certain are becoming actual purchases rather than idle browsing.
1. A Trench Coat
Covered as one of the standout picks in [this season's trend roundup](#), and it's the one item from that post I keep coming back to. The toggle fastening and boxy silhouette have stayed right for decades — this is the least "trend" item on this entire list, in the best way.

2. Kleman Padror
Kleman have a rich heritage, being the official footwear supplier to the SNCF, Air France, French customs, and even the French army through the '80s and '90s. The Padror, their signature Tyrolean-style derby, has stayed essentially unchanged since its introduction for railway workers: moc-toe stitching, a distinctive scalloped welt, and a chunky lug sole, made entirely in their own workshop. A perfect Autumnal shoe.

3. An Oxford Shirt
As it gets cooler, the t-shirts will be replaced by shirting, and a good Oxford button down shirt is the way forward. Both white and blue button-downs are good, as mentioned in my post on How To Build A Capsule Wardrobe. Wear it casually, for work, with a tie, over a t-shirt – the options are endless.

4. Field Watch
There are a host of tool watches out there that do their great job depending on whatever your activity. I'm a fan of new and exciting interpretations, but there's something clean and affective from this field watch from Vaer that's taken cues from the famous 12 Dirty Dozen field watches that were commissioned by Allied Forces during WWII. Switch between a nato strap or bracelet to give the watch a bit more a dressy feel when needed.

5. ASKET Wool Overshirt
A piece I keep coming back to as the temperature starts doing exactly the thing that makes a transitional layer necessary rather than optional.

6. Wide-Leg Trousers
Flagged in the trends post as worth trying, and I've talked myself into a single pair to test the silhouette before committing further. Looking at something in a mid-grey that'll work across more of my existing wardrobe.

8. A Proper Burr Coffee Grinder
If you're serious about your coffee, you know a good grinder is just as important as the coffee and machine you're brewing it with. The Aarke burr grinder is not only good looking, but has an Automatic Dosing function for precise measurements.

9. A Seriously Good Scarf
The statement scarf trend from this month's roundup has me looking for something with more presence than the plain navy one I've worn for the past three winters.

10. A Speyside Whisky with a Twist
I'm looking forward to whisky season, and what better way to get myself in the mood but get a Speyside whisky that's finished in rum casks that give it some extra honeyed character. Could be a good whisky to make a refreshing Whisky Highball and equally good drunk neat.
