Real Stars Are Rare

I was given the opportunity to try on the SS16 collection from iconic British menswear brand Real Stars Are Rare – set up by Phil Bickley and Paul Weller.

This is their third collection, continuing the brand’s clear vision of wanting to create small collections of classic, timeless pieces with a focus on top quality materials, all based on a loosely modernist aesthetic. The attention to detail can be seen within the garments, highlighting Phil and Paul’s desire to work with good manufacturers and use the highest quality fabrics at their disposal. Focusing on the key pieces in every man’s wardrobe, sharp suiting, shirting and knitwear epitomises the well considered collection.

Simple clean lines and classic shapes celebrate the established Real Stars Are Rare trademark look. Introducing a new line of tailored suits in collaboration with Fox Brothers, the colour palette of the collection ranges from classic black, grey and soft navy to a handful of bold colours such as green and blood red within its new knitwear pieces.

Suit: Double breasted suit in black wool flannel
Jumper: Shetland Crewneck jumper in Heather

Heavyweight and multi-textured outerwear is complemented with 100% cotton shirts, where prints such a floral or paisley are safely playing their part along the more simple pink, indigo or sky blue coloured pieces. Casual looks are explored further with a new heavier 100% cotton fabric introduced within the new short sleeved Henley t-shirts, making this everyday wearable collection into a league of its own. Single and double breasted jackets with slim boot cut and straight parallel leg trousers complete a refined look.

Rollneck Jumper: Wool/Cashmere blend
Grey Wool Trousers: Parallel Trousers in charcoal houndstooth
Shoes: Bass Weejun Penny Loafer

Single Breasted Suit: Single Breasted Jacket in Navy Wool/Mohair with tapered trousers
Shirt: Dress Shirt Dark Paisley print
Hat: Felt hat in Tan with white band
Shoes: Bass Weejun Penny Loafers

The full collection is completed with a range of limited edition handmade hats, in collaboration with a London based designer BySju. Flourishing with tradition, this collaboration aims to infuse the long-established with the modern.

All clothes available online and at Tonic on Portobello Road, London.
