Carl Friedrik – premium leather goods
A brand that has been on my radar for quite a while now, producing exquisite premium leather briefcases and accessories has recently rebranded themselves. Originally under the guise of Oppermann London, they now go by the name Carl Friedrik. Set up by brothers Niklas and Mattias Oppermann in 2012, they maintain their focus on quality leathers, paired with fair pricing. Niklas and Mattias works directly with skilled artisans and source their leathers from reputable tanneries, resulting in a premium product that they sell direct to the consumer without adding extra costs. I met Niklas a few years ago at a trade fair and have been lucky to see the brand grow from strength to strength. He told me of how they wanted to focus on producing the best leather goods with premium leather and finding the best factories to ensure the highest standards were maintained.
A couple of my favourite items are their Vallance Slim Leather Briefcase and the Hatton wallet. The latter being one that I’ve been eyeing up for a little while now as a replacement for my current card holder. Featuring five slots for cards, there’s a unique opening to fit notes, including the possibility to personalise and add initials is a great touch for a present, or distinguish your card holder. I’ve had my card holder for over 10 years and been championing them – to the extent that I don’t think I can go to any other wallet now. I find them elegant and practical, without the bulk associated with wallets.
“The idea came from the both of us frustrated with the lack of well-designed, quality leather products that we wanted for ourselves or as gifts for friends. So with our respective backgrounds in business and design, we decided to make our own.
We searched high and low to find the best tanneries and most skilled artisans in the world to help us produce our first products.”
The Carl Friedrik range also encompasses laptop sleeves and leather phone cases – which I thoroughly like. Perfect additions to smarten your iPhone and give a touch of class to your laptop. Unfortunately I currently have a 15″ laptop, but once I upgrade to a new one, it will be the ever popular 13″ sizes. The Islington is high up on the want list. Perhaps I better start looking at that upgrade pretty soon.
